Why we should be thinking about connections in Education 02/02/2018 A while ago I was listening to the radio when an interesting fact was revealed. We can only maintain 150 meaningful connections. Robin Dunbar, an anthropologist conducted some research and concluded that only maintain 150 meaningful connections. Our brains can’t cope with anymore. You can read more about this here: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2010/mar/14/my-bright-idea-robin-dunbar Now my interest in this comes in the educational sector and is a good measure I believe for effective

Art, Revolution and the Curriculum – more questions than answers….. 11/16/2017 Art has a long relationship with revolution, culture and political turmoil. How to get students to find their own way 10/20/2017 Teaching students the ability to find their own artists and influences is essential for developing independent and robust students. When we can discover on our own it improves our confidence and affirms our faith in ourselves. How do we build this into our teaching practice? As with everything we need to plan it into our schemes of work, our lessons and good homework practice. There is nothing as rewarding as a student coming to see you because they have had the eureka moment or found something

Review – Here Be Dragons 07/24/2017 Review – Here Be Dragons Yesterday I saw Dragons. At Bath’s Victoria Art Gallery between 22nd July – 8th October 2017 there is a delightful and well curated exhibition of illustrations. Entrance is through the shop and it is free to under 16’s and I paid £4 for an adult ticket. I was accompanied by my 8-year-old daughter. It is a joy to see all the variety and colourful contemporary work. There are also some older vases with dragons on but mainly it is a modern affair. The space has been used

Checklists: A poison to creativity in the classroom 07/10/2017 This is the post content When I have finished teaching a Sixth Form Group. One of them raises a hand “Can I have a list of what to do?”, a part of my soul dies. Checklists are very prescriptive and lead to a formulaic journey whereby the learning is controlled by the teacher’s assessment of what to do and not the students. I decide to deviate from the learning and get the students to make a list of the positives and negatives of using a checklist. It goes like this: · For o you know
